Itinerary:

Day 1
The activity begins at 08:45am departing from Baños to Hola Vida Reserve. We’ll be driving on the “Ruta de las Cascadas” (Highway of the Waterfalls), a route which like the name suggests, is filled with astonishing waterfalls. From here we head out on our guided tour to the waterfalls, swing over the middle of the forest, learn about the variety of plants that are present and if we’re lucky run into some wildlife. We then have a well-deserved lunch.

Once we’re done, we visit one of the local Quichua communities to learn about their culture and how they make their beautiful ceramics. To finish the tour, we travel by canoe downriver for approximately 30 minutes, until finally heading back to the cabins to rest./p>

BAÑOS SAFETY TIPS

  • Make sure to use mosquito repellent. While the Rio Pastaza is not located in a malarial area, there have been rare cases of yellow fever reported. Aside from that, it’s just good practice to protect yourself against mosquitos so that you’re not covered with itchy and uncomfortable bug bites.
  • Wear sunscreen every day. Even when you don’t feel like you’re getting burned, the equatorial latitude and relatively high altitude of Baños can do a lot of damage to your skin.
  • Baños is a pretty safe town and petty crime is rare, but it’s still a good idea to avoid carrying too much cash on you.
